Students

Students requiring support should lodge an application for support through the disability support implementation officer in their faculty or graduate school (department/division). Each department/division provides support in collaboration with theOffice for Disability Equity (ODE). If you don’t know who the person in charge as disability support implementation officer is in your faculty or graduate school, or if you want more information about the support available, please contact the ODE.

Flow of support(from enrolment to graduation)

1.Once you have been accepted to Tokyo University

 Students with disabilities who have passed either the Second University Entrance Exam, a Bachelor program entrance exam for transfer students conducted by a faculty, or a post-graduate entrance exam conducted run by a graduate school will be received information about the university’s support system and the ODE from the relevant department/division. If you require support for your studies, please speak with your department/division’s disability support implementation officer, or the ODE.

2.If you would like to meet to discuss support options

 Students with disabilities should submit an ‘Application for Disability Support’ to the disability support implementation officer in their department/division.

3.Holding the first meeting

 The student requiring support, the disability support implementation officer from the student’s department/division, and any other people involved meet to discuss the types of support available for the student and their implementation methods.

4.Once the types of support hasbeen decided on

 The student submits a ‘Confirmation of Support’ form to the support implementation officer.

5.Support begins

 After the support has begun, the persons involved meet each semester as necessary, and confirm the status of the support and make adjustments ifnecessary.

6.Meeting to discuss support for exams

 If necessary, the persons involved meet before each exam period to check what support the student needs for taking exams.

7.Meeting to discuss support for the next semester

 Before the beginingof a new semester, a meeting is held to check what kind of support will be needed. The student requiring support, the support implementation officer, staff from the ODE, and other people involved confirm the status of the support and make adjustments if needed.

8.Meeting to pass on information if the student undertakes further study

 If a student requiring support is accepted to a course for further study, the student, the support implementation officer from the new department/division, staff from the ODE, and other people involved meet to hand over information on the student’s situation and the support that has been provided so far. The student, the support implementation officer from the new department/division, and staff from the ODE also have a meeting to hand over information when the student begins the new course.
